What are spaying and neutering?

Spaying is a surgery performed on female pets. A small incision is made on the abdomen during the surgery, and the ovaries and uterus are removed. A neuter procedure is performed on male pets; a small cut is made near the scrotum, and the testicles are removed.

When should my pet be spayed or neutered?

Your pet can be spayed or neutered at any age in their life, provided they are healthy. Both procedures require anesthesia, so we perform blood tests to check if your pet is a good candidate for surgery. If the main reason you want to spay or neuter your pet is to prevent unwanted litters or bad behaviours, they should have the procedure when they are around 6-months-old. At six months, your pet is sexually matured and will start to show signs of heat.

Will the procedure change my pet’s personality?

Any personality change is usually for the better. Before the procedure, you may notice that your pet shows aggressiveness towards other pets/humans and may hump or spray objects. These behaviours usually occur because they are in heat, making them want to mark their territory and procreate. After the procedure is done, these behaviours typically stop.
